  • Leading Owner/Breeder/Exhibitor Award

    A trophy buckle will be awarded to the individual exhibitor that is the owner, breeder and exhibitor of horses earning the most points from all their horses’ combined placings in the top 10 in all APHA World Championship classes at the APHA Halter Million. All divisions count (open, amateur & youth). Challenge, Sweepstakes, Futurities, Stakes classes, etc. do not count towards this award.

    For an individual exhibitor to be eligible, the exhibitor of the horse being shown must be the current recorded owner and the recorded breeder and/or be a member of the owner’s/breeder’s immediate family as per APHA records and in accordance with APHA rules outlined in AM-020. Immediate family shall include the following: spouse, mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister, grandchild, grandparent, step-grandparent, legal ward, in-laws (father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter), stepchild, stepparent, stepbrother, stepsister, half-brother, half-sister, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew or solely-owned or family-owned corporation, ranch or farm. Persons whose relationship is legally recognized as a domestic partnership or civil union under the laws of the jurisdiction in which they sought such relationship are considered immediate family. Such ownership must be evidenced by the records of the APHA.

    • Individuals recorded as the show lessee at the time of showing are not eligible for this award.
    • Horses whose current recorded ownership is in a partnership or jointly owned by any person other than those listed above are not eligible for this award.
    • Horses whose breeder is a partnership consisting of unrelated individuals other than those listed above are not eligible for this award.
    • The exhibitor must be related to each owner/breeder listed on the horse’s registration certificate and/or every owner of the farm/business/partnership to be eligible for the award.
    • Example: Jennifer Doe (#123456) may compete with her grandparent’s horse (owned by John & Jane Doe #654321) and bred by their solely owned farm Doe Paint Horses (#111222).

    Tabulation: Award will be tabulated based on the top 10 placings under each judge. Horses placing in the top 10 will be given a point for each horse placing below them plus one point not to exceed 10 points for 1st place. Example: In a class of 10 or more horses, 1st place receives 10 points, 2nd place receives 9 points, 3rd place receives 8 points, etc. In a class of 6, 1st place receives 6 points, 2nd place receives 5 points, etc.

    Tiebreakers: In the event of a tie, the following system will be used to resolve the tie:

    • The owner/breeder/exhibitor of horses placing in the overall top 10 over the greater number of entries.
    • The owner/breeder/exhibitor of horses placing in the overall top 10 in the greater number of classes.
    • The owner/breeder/exhibitor of horses placing in the overall top 10 with the greater number of horses.

    Entry Deadline
    Must declare eligibility by 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 26 to be eligible for this award.

    Each horse to be included must be declared at the time of entry. No late entries will be accepted for this award and no additional horses can be added after September 26.
